After the 2 first, widely popular, X-Com games "UFO Unknown" and "Terror from the Deep" MicroProse decided to develop yet another X-Com game and named it "Apocalypse".

X-Com 3 Apocalypse is quite different from the 2 first games, both in graphics and in game-style. The year is 2084 and you control the X-Com unit (short for eXtraterrestrial COMbat unit) and it is your mission to protect the Earth from invading aliens. The aliens approach the Earth in UFOs and like the previous games, you must track these vessels and shoot them down, before the wreck havoc in the major cities. After you've blast the UFOs from the skies you must dispatch a transport with armed agents to the crash site, and eliminate the remaining aliens. In the previous 2 games these crash site missions took place in a round-based environment, but in Apocalypse you can also play this in real-time. Before each mission you can equip your agents with armour and firepower - choose from weapons like machine guns, mini guns, grenades, laser rifles and many kinds of ammunition.
